The 2009 TCRHCC Nursing Scholarships awarded 7 nursing students each receiving $5000 for school tuition assistance. This year’s 2009 TCRHCC Nursing Scholarship recipients are: Alicia Bia-Grand Canyon University; Cheryl Luna-Northland Pioneer College; Rantreva Peaches-Northern Arizona University; Roberta Peaches-Northern Arizona University; Cila Salt-Northern Arizona University; Trudy Secatero-Northern Arizona University; and Laurie Trujillo-Northern Arizona University.
The awards were presented during the monthly TCRHCC Board of Directors meeting on August 20, 2009 at the future site of the TCRHCC Flagstaff Sacred Peaks Clinic. The 7 recipients were given the opportunity to introduce themselves to all who attended, accept their scholarships, and thank the 8 members of the Board of Directors.
Each year, the TCRHCC Nursing Scholarship is awarded to Native American Nursing Students in their final 2 years of school, in an accredited BSN or ADN program. The selection process is a competitive one, and applications are received from May through August. Each scholarship is awarded in exchange for one year of contracted employment as an RN at TCRHCC upon graduation and successful passing of the NCLEX RN exam.
Initiated in 2004, the program has been successful in allowing the students to give back to their Navajo community, without having to leave the reservation for gainful employment.
