2nd Annual Meth Prevention Conference scheduled March 1st

TUBA CITY, Ariz. – The Tuba City Regional Health Care Corporation (TCRHCC) Mental Health- Meth & Suicide Prevention Initiatives (MSPI) is hosting its second annual Meth Prevention Conference, scheduled for March 1st in Tuba City at the Moenkopi Legacy Inn Conference Center.

The 1-day event will look at the negative impact methamphetamine has had on the Navajo communities and other communities surrounding Tuba City.

“This conference is very important to this community because we all need to be reminded how quickly meth can destroy families, as well as the life of the individual who still uses meth,” said Mitze Lee, MSPI Project Coordinator at TCRHCC.

Meth, a toxic drug, is known as a synthetic stimulant that affects the central nervous system.

“Physically meth can cause damage to the central nervous system, as well as the brain,” says Lee. “If the Navajo communities and other communities think that meth is not around as much; this conference will remind us all that meth is still out there and can easily sneak back into the lives of our children.”

During the Meth Prevention Conference, TCRHCC Meth & Suicide Prevention Initiatives wants to remind the community and participants to never let your guard down because meth is still around.

“This conference is to remind everyone who attends that meth can destroy families, children and the individual who is using,” says Lee. “We are inviting those who are interested in learning about the drug and how it can affect the lives of individuals and families.”
The Master of Ceremony is Mr. Pax Harvey, with featured guest speakers from the Coconino County Attorney’s Office, and Changing Lives Around the World, Inc.

The conference will also feature exhibitors that explore current trends and topics such as substance abuse, violence, and resources available in the community.

Exhibitors who would like to share their information and be part of the conference may call Tami Suchowiejko at 928-679-8229.

Registration is free and open to the public from 7:30 AM to 8:15 AM. The Posting of Colors will follow at 8:15 AM.

The conference is sponsored by Tuba City Regional Health Care Corporation Mental Health-Meth & Suicide Prevention Initiatives, Western Navajo-Hopi Meth Task Force, and the Coconino County Attorney.

Lee added, “I would like to thank the Meth & Suicide Prevention Initiatives (MSPI) Program Staff; TCRHCC Mental Health Department; Dave Rozema, Coconino County Attorney’s Office; Tami Suchowiejko, Coconino County Attorney’s Office; Western Navajo-Hopi Meth Task Force; Tuba City Department of Behavioral Health Services (DBHS); and Moenkopi Legacy for all their time, support, and efforts in organizing an important event.”
