Family Spirit

What is Family Spirit?

Family Spirit is a home visiting program designed for pregnant and parenting families with Native children under three years of age. The program promotes the health and wellbeing of families through six (6) modules:
  • Prenatal Care
  • Infant Care
  • Your Growing Child
  • Toddler Care
  • My Family and Me
  • Healthy Living

Family Spirit program covers 63 lessons starting at 28 weeks pregnant and ending at the child’s third birthday.

Who can enroll?

You are eligible for the Family Spirit program if you live within the TCRHCC service area and are one or more of the following:
 • Currently pregnant,
 • Age 20 years or younger,
 • First-time mother, or have a
 • History of gestational diabetes.
*Eligibility may be flexible*

How can I enroll?

You may get enrolled through a referral from the Women’s Clinic, Pediatric Clinic, or Public Health Nursing Department.

How can health educators help me?

Family Spirit health educators can support you to:
  • Learn about prenatal care and what to expect during
   pregnancy
  • Help families adapt to life with a new baby and care for
   themselves
  • Track your child’s development
  • Ready your child for early school
  • Ensure your child is up to date with their well-child visits
  • Connect to services for childcare, job training, and other
   available community services

How often will the health educator visit?

Your health educator will plan visits based on the lesson’s instructions. Visits may be spaced out or last longer than others due to the lesson’s time frame.

You may request visits to best fit your schedule.
