Public Health Nursing Program

The Public Health Nurses role is to provide health education and prevention services to the Indian beneficiaries residing in the Tuba City Service Unit. Public Health Nurses aim to improve the health of individuals and diverse communities locally and globally through leadership and excellence in nursing education, research, practice and service. While most nurses care for one patient at a time, public health nurses care for entire populations. By working with whole communities, public health nurses are able to educate people about health issues, improve community health and safety, and improve access to care. Public Health Nurses provide services in the home, school, and community settings. The Public Health Nurse coordinate their services with medical and other professional personnel within the hospital and clinic. They also coordinate services with other non-IHS resources, such as Tribal, State, Federal and private health services and programs. Along with providing home visits in the community, Public Health Nurses also aim to empower and support the needs of the community thru educational programs, projects and community screenings/outreach events. Providing Community Health Services Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm. No patient services on Weekends and Holidays. If a major disaster occurs, staff will be asked to return to work.
