TCRHCC Public Health Department, in collaboration with our partners at the Navajo Nation, Indian Health Services, Coconino County and Arizona Department of Health Services, works to reduce the transmission and impact of sexually transmitted infections (STI) through testing, treatment, education, and prevention strategies in the TCRHCC service area.
Syphilis cases in Tuba City service area went up 6x between 2019 to 2022.
Navajo Nation issued a public health advisory on syphilis in March 2023.
Arizona has an outbreak of syphilis. New cases are rising in women and babies.
The number of babies born with syphilis doubled each year from 2016-2019.
About 40% of untreated pregnancies with syphilis result in stillbirth or newborn death.
STIs are on the rise on the Navajo Nation. Many STIs do not have symptoms, but can cause long-term health problems.
Get tested for STIs every year if you are 13 – 64 years old. STI testing is the only way to know if you need treatment.
Call the STI Hotline at (928) 707-4865, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm to ask about STI results or treatment.
If left untreated, STIs can cause serious health conditions
Increased risk of getting HIV
Painful pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
Can make it harder to get pregnant later
Problems for both moms and babies
