TCRHCC Confirms No Measles Cases in the Tuba City Service Area

TUBA CITY, Ariz. — Tuba City Regional Health Care Corporation (TCRHCC) has been made aware of a school notification regarding a possible measles exposure in the Tuba City Service Area. As of Thursday, December 18, there are no confirmed or suspected cases of measles in the Tuba City Service Area. Coconino County reports no new measles cases or exposures in the area.

Measles is a highly contagious virus that easily spreads among unvaccinated people. It is spread through direct contact with respiratory droplets, or through tiny droplets in the air from coughing and sneezing. Symptoms of measles include fever, runny nose, cough, and eye discharge, followed by rash. It can lead to pneumonia, brain infection, or death.

“There is a current measles outbreak in the Colorado City, Hildale, and Southwest Utah area. It is very important that everyone is up to date on their measles vaccines. The two-dose MMR vaccine series is 97 percent effective in preventing measles,” said Dr. Amanda Burrage, Pediatrician and Medical Director of Public Health at TCRHCC.

The MMR vaccine is the best defense against measles. Children should get their first dose at 12 months and second dose at 4 years of age. Schedule your child’s next doctor visit at Pediatric Clinic. Adults can walk into TCRHCC Public Health Clinic, Monday through Friday. No appointment is needed.

If you or your family members may have been exposed to measles, please use the designated parking at the north entrance of the ER Department. To ensure proper triage, call 928-283-2662 for assistance after parking in the designated spot.
