On Monday, May 16, 2016 in Washington DC, Obstetrics and Gynecologist Amanda Leib, MD, received the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) William H.J. Haffner American Indian/Alaska Native Women’s Health award after20 years of exemplary service to American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) women while based at the Tuba City Regional Health Care Corporation (TCRHCC).
The award recognizes the superlative efforts of those individuals who have made a major contribution to improving the quality of AI/AN women’s health care.
“She is deserving of this award for her commitment to the Native American community and the outstanding service she provides,” said Kathleen Harner, MD, MPH, FACOG. “She is an exceptional
physician with excellent clinical skills and a compassionate nature. We, at TCRHCC, are lucky to have her on our staff.”
Dr. Leib is recognizedas an outstanding consultant specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBG) at TCRHCC, which includes Sacred Peaks Health Center, and has consistently provided excellent care at surrounding clinics and hospitals: the Hopi Health Center, Inscription House Health Center, and Kayenta Health Center.
“TCRHCC and the surrounding communities are fortunate to have Dr. Leib leading a quality Women’s Health Program. She leads her colleagues in establishing a better quality of life for our Native women,” said Lynette Bonar, RN, MBA, BSN, Chief Executive Officer.
Dr. Leib has served as Chief of Women’s Services at Tuba City for the past nine years, Chief Clinical Consultant of Obstetrics and Gynecology for the Navajo Area since 2011, and as a principal faculty member for the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Indian Health Service Continuing Education Symposia and the American Academy of Family Practice Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics courses conducted biannually by the College Committee on AI/AN Women’s Health since 2010.
As described in her letter of nomination for the award, Dr. Leib’s “dedication and commitment to the Native women she serves is unsurpassed, and she has had a tremendous impact on the lives of many. I can think of no one more deserving of this recognition.”
