Tuba City Regional Health Care Honored for Excellence in Patient Care, Trauma Services, and Laboratory Performance

TUBA CITY, Ariz. — Tuba City Regional Health Care Corporation (TCRHCC) has received multiple prestigious accolades, reaffirming its commitment to excellence in patient care, trauma services, and laboratory operations.

“Receiving these prestigious honors is a testament to our healthcare team’s unwavering dedication and commitment to providing quality care to our community,” said Chief Executive Officer Joette Walters. “These accolades, rooted in a legacy that predates my tenure, affirm our steadfast commitment to delivering exceptional and empathetic care to our community.”

Leading Laboratories Recognition

TCRHCC has been awarded the Leading Laboratories recognition from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and The Joint Commission. This two-year designation highlights the hospital’s commitment to laboratory excellence and improved patient outcomes.

To receive this recognition, TCRHCC underwent a rigorous evaluation process, demonstrating excellence in four key areas: elevating quality outcomes, supporting professional development, cultivating trusted leadership, and promoting laboratory visibility.

“The Leading Laboratories recognition elevates and distinguishes the discerning and empowering work laboratories do for patients every day,” said E. Blair Holladay, PhD, MASCP, SCT(ASCP)CM, CEO of ASCP. “We congratulate TCRHCC on their dedication to patient care, and their commitment to raising the visibility of the laboratory as the foundation of healthcare.”

“We commend TCRHCC for achieving the Leading Laboratories recognition and for its commitment to help support quality and safety within the laboratory setting,” said Heather Hurley, executive director, Laboratory Accreditation, The Joint Commission.

Reverification as a Level III Trauma Center

TCRHCC has also been reverified as a Level III Trauma Center by the Verification Review Committee of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS COT),  a distinction the hospital has maintained since 2014.

“This achievement recognizes TCRHCC’s dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients,” Walters said. “The distinction enables the hospital to see and take care of more critically injured patients. The only higher-level Native American trauma center is a Level II facility in Alaska.”

TCRHCC is one of only eight hospitals in Arizona with a Level III ACS Trauma Center designation, and one of just four outside the Phoenix and Tucson metropolitan areas. The hospital’s trauma program benefits from strong administrative and board support, with a dedicated team providing 24/7 emergency coverage.

A recent ACS review highlighted the program’s strengths, including a Trauma Surgeons’

93% response rate within 30 minutes for the highest-level trauma activations and a culturally inclusive approach to injury prevention, led by staff members Lyndon Edischee and Tina Billy.

“Join me in congratulating Dr. Kelley, Ms. Shannon Claw, Director of Trauma Program since 2011, and our Trauma team (OR, ED, ICU providers, and support team members),” Walters said. “This was a challenging ACS review.”

2024 Press Ganey Human Experience Guardian of Excellence Award

TCRHCC has also been named a 2024 Human Experience (HX) Guardian of Excellence Award® winner by Press Ganey, placing it among the top 5% of healthcare providers nationwide in clinical quality performance.

“TCRHCC is redefining what it means to provide compassionate care,” said Patrick T.
