Mental Health

Mental Health

The Department of Mental Health supports the mental and emotional health of individuals, their families, and the community. We treat a wide variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and substance-related and addictive disorders. We also help patients around issues related to relationships, life transitions, grief, anger management, gender identity, and self-esteem. Services are available for adults, adolescents, and children. Treatment modalities include medication management, individual psychotherapy, and group psychotherapy.

Mental health services are provided by a team of psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and licensed mental health counselors. Services are also available at Sacred Peaks Health Center in Flagstaff.

At TCRHCC you’ll find a confidential, safe and compassionate place to heal, along with the tools and programs needed to recover treatment.

Telepsychiatry services

Services are available either in-person or by telepsychiatry. Telepsychiatry appointments are conducted via Zoom, and can be done directly to personal devices (smartphones, tablets, PCs) or in telehealth rooms at the Department of Mental Health. Providers can make a referral. Referrals are not required, however, and patients also have the option to schedule appointments themselves by calling 928-283-2446.

Emergency services

Mental health staff provide emergency evaluation and consultation-liaison services for patients in the Emergency Department and TCRHCC inpatient units (ACU, ICU, and Labor & Delivery). Referrals are made to inpatient psychiatric facilities when appropriate.

Diagnoses and treatment:

Initial evaluation includes history of presenting symptoms/concerns, past medical and psychiatric history, family history, substance use history, developmental history. Once the assessment phase is complete, the licensed mental health provider makes treatment recommendations. Treatment can take the form of medications when appropriate, prescribed either by a psychiatrist (a medical doctor specializing in psychiatry) or psychiatric nurse practitioner. Treatment can also take the form of individual or group psychotherapy (“talk therapy”), including cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, or dialectical behavioral therapy.
